SR:UK :: Modifying guide for Body Kits, Exterior Styling & Rear Spoilers on Street Racers.
Body Kits & Spoilers.
Modify the outside looks of your car with some subtle body styling add ons or go extreme, with a full blown wide arch monster body kit! Bodykits can be costly but as modding goes it doesn't have to be THE most expensive alteration to your car. If you're serious about modifying your car then a body kit has got to be on the list.

Body kits are made in different materials and most common types are fibreglass, ABS, Glass reinforced polyester (GRP) or Polyurethane. Most favourable is Polyurethane which is slightly pliable so its less likely to crack in the event of a mishap. If you're having a body kit built from scratch it'll most likely be fibreglass or GRP.

Bodykits usually need to be prepared and sprayed before you can fit the various bits and pieces to your car. You get what you pay for when it's professionally done so if you want it REALLY spanking then be prepared to shell out anything from £500 - £2500 depending on what you want fitted.

A well fitted body kit & a super cool spray job will make your car the mutts nuts!!

Rear Spoilers & Wings are a lot easier, they are often small enough to spray yourself and easy enough to fit.

We do not take any responsibility if you attempt to fit a body kit yourself.

We recommend that you have your body styling parts painted and fitted by a professional body work specialist such as QVR.

Fitting a Body Kit.
Body Kits come in a wide range of styles and some will need modifying to fit your car. So for this guide we are assuming you've decided to fit an easy one consisting of additional skirts fitted to the existing bumpers.
  1. Before you begin, make sure that everything is there.
  2. Then work out which bit goes where and how it fits.
  3. Do a trial fit on all the pieces to make sure they line up properly & work out which bits will need to be modified.
  4. While you have the kit test fitted, mark where it sits on the bumper. Making sure it's level.
  5. You can either bond the kit on or screw it on. Bonding does provide a more professional finish.
  6. Before you apply the glue. CLEAN the bumper surfaces and LIGHTLY score the surface of the bumper where the kit will be, with a nail or small screwdriver.
  7. Starting with whichever piece takes your fancy, apply the glue, as per the instructions.
  8. Taking great care to align it properly, Fix the styling part to the car.
  9. Then move on to the next piece until you're finished.
  10. Once the kit is on, either you or a professional sprayer can paint the kit to match your car.

Fitting a Rear Spoiler.
Rear Spoilers and wings are much easier to fit than a full body kit.
  1. Before you begin, check that you have everything to fit the spoiler.
  2. Postion the spoiler where you want it to go and mark where mountings need to be on the boot lid.
  3. Drill the correct sized holes through the boot lid and protect the bare metal with rust proofing paint.
  4. Fix the Spoiler to the boot securely.
I actually think if you do want to spray your spoiler then it's best done before you fit it to your car.
